Microsoft Technology Centres can be found world-wide, with 11 located in the US and 14 elsewhere. Thus far, however, Microsoft has ignored the Latin American market - something the company appears keen to address.
The company's latest technology centre can be found in Mexico City, and its the first to be built in Latin America despite Microsoft having gone as far afield as Dublin, Moscow, Paris, and Tokyo for other facilities. A second is also planned before the end of the year.
It's not Microsoft's first foray into Mexico - the company's local subsidiary, imaginatively named Microsoft Mexico, celebrated its 25th anniversary last week - but it's the first Technology Centre located there.
Designed to offer training to local businesses, Microsoft's Technology Centres have proven popular with companies looking to get their most out of a - typically substantial - investment in Microsoft software. Microsoft has partnered with Samsung, Dell, Hewlett-Packard, and others on the project.
Full details of Microsoft's Latin American expansions plans aren't yet available, but AFP quotes Microsoft International president Jean-Philippe Courtois as stating that the company is looking to spend $690 million in Mexico by November 2012, on top of the $10 million used to set up the Technology Centre.
